Jurassic World - a great plot with poor execution.
All my friends who had watched the movie said it was pretty good and a must watch. I loved the Jurassic Park and Lost World. Obviously, I was pretty excited to watch the new take on the extinct reptile. The following will be a spoiler alert... you've been warned.
I realized by the end of the movie that the director/writer watched Surya's Singham movie before writing the script and dialogs. The movie was filled with punch dialogs at every turn. May be the things different were the absence of Singham dance and Surya himself. I don't remember watching a Hollywood movie with so many punch dialogs... not even western Vijaykanth's 'Die Hard'.
At the end of the movie, Claire and Owen dialog goes something like...
"So, what's next?"
"Survival... off each other."
Somewhere during the movie, Claire asks who is piloting the copter and Irffan Khan as Masrani answers "Who better to fly than me."
And then there were those ridiculous scenes that we have so come to love in Hollywood movies. The way Claire runs all around the park with heels on. Worse, she even leads a T-Rex with a flare torch in hand and using those pointed heels as if they were Ussain Bolt's track shoes. Then there is Owen trying on a Superman pose when all he had done in the movie until then was escape a dinosaur. And who can forget the Mortal Kombat between dinosaurs. Watching inter dinosaur battle was super fun but when it repeated more than twice, it felt more like Mr. T's Warcraft stunts rather than T-Rex million year old rustic moves.
More than all this, the biggest letdown for me was the execution. Don't get me wrong, I loved the plot. Probably one of the most interesting storylines to play with. However, I missed the thrill that was present in its predecessors. There was the dino escape scene - excellent plot but before you know it its already out in the open. No suspense, no thrill, no build up to the escape. There were lot of opportunities to seize and make it a thriller but guess the director was unaware of that word or MJ's song. I wouldn't have minded a few dino zombies dancing alongside Michael Jackson either ways.
